This line of traditional and antique hand carved furniture relies heavily upon
rosewood as its timber, though other precious woods such as ebony, red
sandalwood, chickenwing wood, and walnut wood are also extensively used.

Rosewood, the most common timber used in our furniture, is a popular name
for the ornamental wood of several species of tropical trees, especially the
leguminous trees of the genus Dalbergia.  [Dalbergia Llatifolia and Dalbergia
Sissoo are the varieties used in our furniture.]  This hardwood, with its red
brown varigated grain of highly decorative nature, is used to make some of
the finest hand carved furniture available. Most Dalbergia species contain
highly pleasing aromatic oils within the grain; and it is this sweet and delicate
fragrance that has given this hard timber the name Rosewood.

Chinese Heritage Furniture

In the Chinese furniture series, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty style furniture is our specialty.  Late Ming period is considered to be the golden age of Chinese furniture.  The hand made furniture of this time displayed simple, elegant lines, beautiful curves and superb craftsmanship. These were no longer simply functional items of furniture but had become objects of beauty, and their timeless simplicity means that they still grace even the most modern environment. Many of the designs that first appeared during this period remained unchanged, in some cases for hundreds of years.

Hand carved furniture crafted during the early Qing period was similar to Ming, but gradually turned to rich and intricate ornamentation, along with coordinated hand carved designs. Because of the high level of development of Chinese furniture in the Ming and Qing dynasties, most Chinese furniture design today follows in the tradition of pieces from these two periods.

Indian Heritage Furniture

In the Indian furniture series, the stunning furniture finds its origin in the Mughal Dynasty period of the Indian subcontinent, and offers an unmatched amalgam of architecture, history, and craftsmanship. The Mughals were great patrons of decorative arts and calligraphy, and woodcarving became popular in the Mughal courts.  Naturally seasoned rosewood was elegantly hand-carved, and the rich inlay work displayed intricate features showing jungle scenes, animals, and birds of paradise.

The Mughal, Ming, and Qing preference for sophistication and ceremony is still reflected in the classic elegance of today’s artisanship - a skill passed from generation to generation, continually absorbing the rich cultural and historical traditions of these complex societies.
